belief

A belief is an explanation, an apparent anchor amidst the seeming instability of the unknown.
It's what makes conspiracy theories, religion, and mythology so attractive.
We are all - ALL - looking for safety, for security, to know that we are okay and will be okay.
And, most of our beliefs and subsequent actions (behaviors) stem from this need; the nature of which varying with how we feel threatened and how we define security.
The purpose of my beliefs is the same as the purpose of yours.
The purpose of my behavior is the same as the purpose of yours.
Our beliefs are effectively the same.
Our behavior is effectively the same.
And this is all we need to know.
As we see this, our perceptions of threat and security shift with increased understanding; and our beliefs and actions attenuate themselves, becoming less and less extreme (closer to centered). Stability is reestablished.
