the "you" you think you are

2019-05-15

The "you" you think you are is exactly that - a "you" created in thought. Something you made up that seems to make sense given the stories you've woven around your self and your perceived place in the world.

This you doesn't really exist - you exist only in your own head.
(Nobody else knows this you - even though you might think they do because it seems like they should.)

Speaking of which, the "you" others think you are works the same way - a you created of their thoughts. Of course, you know this.

If you only knew the real me ...

We've all said it - whether longingly wishing to feel truly known or fervently hoping our true self won't be revealed.

So, if you're not who you think you are, or who they think you are, then who are you?

You are what remains when all thought and meaning fall away.
